Freshman Jaedan Brown put Michigan's point on the board, winning in straight sets against No. 44 Margaryta Bilokin at No. 5. It was all Brown in the first set, as the Wolverine freshman raced out to a 5-0 lead before wrapping up a 6-1 win. In the second set, Brown made her move in the middle, going up a break at 4-2. Duke struck first, winning the doubles point behind victories at No. 2 (6-2) and No. 3 (6-4). The Blue Devils went up, 4-2, concurrently on those courts, taking control of the match's first point.
Duke took four first sets in singles action, with Brown and sophomore Nicole Hammond at No. 6 accounting for Michigan's wins.
The Blue Devils won the first two singles matches off court, winning at No. 4 and No. 2 in straight sets. Brown cut the U-M deficit to 3-1 with her win at No. 5.
Freshman Kari Miller stormed back from a first-set loss to grab a 6-4 win in the second against No. 8-ranked Kelly Chen to stay on court and keep the Wolverines' hopes alive. Hammond went up, 5-1, in her second set, but found herself in a tiebreaker to try to cut into Duke's lead and keep the match going.
U-M ran out of time, as No. 29-ranked Chloe Beck put Duke's fourth point on the board behind a win at No. 3.
