Maize Knocks off Blue in Annual Intrasquad Meet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's gymnastics team held its annual Maize and Blue Intrasquad meet Saturday (Dec. 12), with Maize defeating Blue, 324.65-319.85, inside Newt Loken Training Center. In the four-up, four-count meet, senior Cameron Bock won five events in addition to the all-around, while sophomore Paul Juda high bar.
The annual matchup began on floor exercise, with Bock taking the crown with 14.45 for the Maize team. Juda, representing the Blue team took second with a 14.40. Senior Nick Guy (Maize) placed third with a 13.65.
On pommel horse, Bock took the top spot with a 14.40 for Maize. Fellow senior Jacob Moore scored a 14.10 for the Blue, and sophomore David Willett scored a 13.80 for Team Maize. Blue won pommel horse with a 54.45, while Maize posted 53.70.
Bock took the top spot in still rings with a 14.25, while senior James Read (Blue) marked a 13.70, followed by a 13.40 by graduate student Thomas Paul to aid the Maize squad. After the rotation, Maize held a 2.00 advantage after outdoing Blue, 53.05-50.30.
On vault, Maize again claimed the event, outdueling Blue, 57.35-56.30. Bock collected his third event win of the day with a 14.65. Maize also got a second-place performance from senior Nick Guy (14.60), while Juda led Blue with a 14.55 on the table.
Bock added his final crown of the night on parallel bars with a pristine routine that resulted in a 14.55. Freshman Evgeny Siminiuc tied Juda for second place with a score of 13.80.
High bar saw Juda take the event with a 14.30, while Siminiu and Steven Lukasik took second and third for Maize with a 14.00 and 13.55, respectively.
Six freshmen made their U-M debuts in Matthew Chertkow, Lukasik, Read, Eddie Yao, Evan Bock, and Siminiuc.
