
Bordeleau, Truscott, Edwards Selected on Day 2 of NHL Draft

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Three University of Michigan ice hockey players -- freshmen Thomas Bordeleau and Jacob Truscott, and incoming Wolverine Ethan Edwards -- were selected Wednesday (Oct. 7) on Day 2 of the 2020 NHL Draft.
Bordeleau was an early selection Wednesday, taken seventh in the second round (38th overall) by the San Jose Sharks.
Bordeleau spent the last two years with the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP). In 2018-19, he played in 56 games with the U17, leading the team in scoring with 16 goals and 23 assists. He represented the US U17 at the U17 World Hockey Championship and had four assists in five games. This past season with the U18 team, Bordeleau collected 16 goals and 30 assists in 47 games. A Biosteel All-America, Bordeleau's international experience includes playing in three Five Nations Tournament and claiming both a gold and silver medal playing in the Four Nations Tournament.
Other notable Michigan players drafted by San Jose include Jeff Jilson (1999) and Josh Norris (2017).
The Vancouver Canucks selected Truscott in the fifth round (144th overall). Truscott spent the last two years with the USNDTP, and in 2018-19 played in 47 games, collecting five goals and 16 assists for 21 points. With the U17 in 2018-19, Truscott had five goals and 12 assists in 55 games. He played with Team USA at the three Five Nations Tournaments -- winning gold in 2019 (Sweden), silver in 2018 (Czech Republic) and bronze in 2017 (Sweden) while also taking the silver medal at the Four Nations Tournament in 2018 (Plymouth, Mich.). Truscott also is a Biosteel All-American.
Other notable Michigan players drafted by Vancouver include Quinn Hughes (2018), Will Lockwood (2016) and Bill Muckalt (1994).
Edwards was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round (120th overall). A defenseman, Edwards played last season with the Spruce Grove Saints (Alberta Junior Hockey League) netting nine goals and 24 assists in 50 games. He will spend the 2020-21 season with the Sioux City Musketeers (United State Hockey League). Edwards played for Canada West in the World Junior A Championships last year.
Other notable Michigan players drafted by New Jersey include Brendan Morrison (1993), David Harlock (1993) and Mike Van Ryn (1998).
The trio joins first-round selection Brendan Brisson, who was taken by the Vegas Golden Knights in the first round (29th overall), Tuesday night (Oct. 6).
Michigan boasts 168 NHL draft picks all-time and holds the longest current streak in college hockey with a player being called in each of the last 25 years.
