WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Sophomore Ross Todd and junior Jake Herremans qualified to the NCAA Championships on the one-meter springboard to open the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships on Thursday (March 14) at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center. The team's roster for the NCAA Championships now stands at 15 (11 swimmers, two divers, two relay-only swimmers).
Michigan will have at least two divers at the NCAA Championships for the first time in 20 years (1999: Brett Wilmot, Josh Trexler).
Zone C was allotted 11 qualifying spots on one-meter. Todd finished seventh (687.90) and Herremans was 10th (649.10). Todd will make his second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships -- but first on one-meter -- as he dove on three-meter and platform last year. The qualification was especially sweet for Herremans, who heartbreakingly missed qualification by one spot on two separate occasions last year. This will be his first NCAA Championships appearance.
Redshirt junior Collin DeShaw held the 11th and final spot heading into the final round, but ultimately finished 12th (640.95). Should he qualify on either three-meter or platform, DeShaw would be eligible to dive the one-meter board at the NCAA Championships due to a top-12 finish.
Sophomore Chris Canning also made the final, finishing 17th (585.00).
The NCAA Zone C Diving Championships continue Friday (March 15) at 1 p.m. from the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.
