MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team posted the NCAA's third-fastest time in the 200-yard medley relay on the opening night of the Minnesota Invite on Wednesday (Dec. 4) at Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
The Wolverines took second in the 200-yard medley relay, earning an NCAA 'A' cut from the foursome of sophomore Maggie MacNeil, senior Miranda Tucker, junior Claire Maiocco and junior Daria Pyshnenko (1:35.53). It is the third-fastest time in the NCAA so far this season, trailing Virginia and California, who finished just three-tenths of a second ahead of Michigan on Wednesday.
Despite having three new swimmers on the 800-yard freestyle relay, U-M managed to come within one-tenth of a second of an NCAA 'B' cut. The foursome of freshman Kaitlynn Sims, freshman Megan Glass, junior Sierra Schmidt and senior Chloe Hicks touched fifth at 7:05.96, just off the 'B' cut of 7:05.88.
The Minnesota Invite continues Thursday (Dec. 5) with a full slate of events. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. CST with finals following at 6 p.m.
