ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's tennis head coach Ronni Bernstein announced Thursday (Nov. 14) the signing of blue-chip recruits Jaedan Brown and Kari Miller to National Letters of Intent to join the Wolverines for the 2020-21 season.
"I am excited about adding both of these players," Bernstein said. "They are really good friends, so that will be great to bring in two kids who already have an established relationship both on and off the court."
Jaedan Brown
Brown joins the Wolverines from Granger, Indiana, and is ranked as the No. 13 senior by Tennis Recruiting. She is a five-time Midwest Closed champion who has been ranked as high as No. 10 in her class. She finished third in doubles with Miller at the Hard Court Nationals in 2017. She has won a pair of Grade 4 ITF singles and doubles titles. Brown reached the semifinals of the 16s Orange Bowl in 2017 and won the gold ball at the National Indoors. Brown finished third at the USTA Girls' 18 National Clay Court Championships this past summer, winning her first five matches in straight sets before falling in the semifinals. Her father, Corwin, played football at Michigan, and her mother, Melissa, swam for the Wolverines.
"Jaedan has a long history of Michigan athletics in her family," Bernstein said. "It is exciting for me to keep that Michigan tradition alive. She is really talented and can do a lot. She is really going to help us in doubles because she already has a really good sense in that."
Kari Miller
Miller, an Ann Arbor native, is ranked No. 9 in the senior class. She has won a pair of state titles playing No. 1 singles at Pioneer High, winning as a freshman and a junior after taking her sophomore season off from high school tennis. She was named to the all-state first team following her junior season. Miller reached the finals of Clay Courts and played in the Junior U.S. Open. She also reached the semifinals of the $15K WTT tournament at the USTA National Campus this past summer, winning her first five matches to get through qualifying into the main draw.
"I am happy to keep a local kid here in Ann Arbor," Bernstein said. "Kari is super competitive and I think she will bring that here, which goes a long way in college tennis. She is a really hard worker from a great family. She is going to be a great addition to our program."
Michigan will graduate seniors Chiara Lommer, Giulia Pairone and Lera Patiuk following the 2019-20 season.
