Michigan Bounces Back with Shutout of No. 12 Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. -- The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team bounced back for a 4-0 victory over No. 12-ranked Mississippi in the consolation match of the ITA Kick-Off on Sunday (Jan. 27) at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center.
Michigan won the doubles point by virtue of wins at No. 2 and No. 3. The No. 2 pair of sophomore Alyvia Jones and senior Brienne Minor raced out to a 3-0 lead en route to a 7-5 win at No. 2 as the first match off court.
The duo of sophomore Bella Lorenzini and junior Chiara Lommer clinched the point for Michigan with a 6-4 win at No. 3, giving Michigan the early 1-0 lead.
Senior Kate Fahey pushed Michigan's lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1. Fahey won the final three games of the second set to pick up her first singles win in dual-match action this season.
Junior Giulia Pairone put Michigan on the brink with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 3. After capitalizing on a late break in the first set for the 7-5 victory, Pairone jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second for the win.
Lorenzini clinched the match for Michigan with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6, her first singles action in a dual match this season.
Michigan will return to the Varsity Tennis Center next weekend for a pair of matches, first hosting Michigan State on Saturday (Feb. 2) at 1 p.m.
