
Mikulak, Bock Secure Senior National Team Spots

BOSTON, Mass. -- Rising sophomore Cameron Bock of the University of Michigan men's gymnastics team and alum Sam Mikulak (2011-14) earned spots on the United States Senior National Team for their performances at the 2018 US Championships Saturday (Aug. 18), at TD Bank Arena in Boston. Mikulak secured his record-tying fifth all-around title as well as three individual titles, while Bock placed seventh to earn the first senior national team berth of his career.
Session II update (Saturday)
Mikulak secured the fifth all-around championship of his career, tying Blaine Wilson for the most in United States gymnastics history. His two-day score of 172.900 have him a 2.6 point advantage over last years all-around champion Yul Moldauer. He also took event titles on floor exercise (29.100), parallel bars (29.950), and high bar (28.400).
Bock took seventh in the all-around with a 163.200 to earn the coveted national team spot. He placed in the top-10 on parallel bars (6th, 27.750), high bar (8th, 26.500), floor (10th, 27.650), and still rings (10th, 27.250).
Moore took 21st in the all-around competition, highlighted by a 28.050 on floor to take eighth, while de los Angeles competed on three events, with his top score coming on parallel bars with a 26.950 to place ninth.Â
In junior competition, Penev compiled a 152.850 to place seventh. His top score came on vault with a 28.150, which was good enough for third.
Mikulak will now participate in the 2018 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Doha, Qatar, beginning on Oct. 25, while Bock will partake in the Pan-Am Championships in Lima, Peru on Sept. 11-16.
Session I update (Thursday)
In session I of junior competition, Penev sat in 10th-place with a 75.700, highlighted by a 14.200 on vault to take third. He also had top-five finishes on floor (4th, 13.600), pommel horse (5th, 12.600), and parallel bars (5th, 12.500).
Following session I of senior competition, Mikulak led the all-around race with a score of 85.150, winning both floor (14.750) and parallel bars (13.700). He holds a 1.050 lead over Akash Modi.
Bock excelled on day one, and sat in eighth-place with an 82.000 in the all-around. He earned top-10 finishes on pommel horse (7th, 13.650), rings (7th, 13.700), and parallel bars (6th, 13.900).
Moore placed ninth on both floor exercise (14.000), and on pommel horse (13.600), while de los Angeles competed on four events, highlighted by a 13.750 on parallel bars that was good for 11th-place.
