Performance ITA Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year -- Associate head coach Teryn Ashley-Fitch was named the Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for the third time in her career (2010, 2013). Ashley-Fitch was instrumental in helping Michigan capture its second Big Ten Tournament title, defeating Northwestern in the final after a 10-1 mark during conference action. That title capped a turnaround year for the Maize and Blue, which won 14 of the last 16 matches of the season to finish with an 18-10 record. U-M was 4-8 on March 11 but found its footing in Big Ten action and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Michigan featured three All-Big Ten honorees in Kate Fahey, Chiara Lommer and Brienne Minor. Fahey was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Year and has qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship.
Kate Fahey (March 27)
Big Ten Athlete of the Week -- Junior Kate Fahey was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after another 2-0 weekend at the No. 1 singles spot. Fahey started the weekend with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Minnesota's Caroline Ryba on Friday (March 25) before picking up another straight-sets win over Purdue's Silvia Ambrosio on Sunday (March 27). Fahey is 11-0 at the No. 1 spot this season and is sporting a 14-match win streak in singles. She also teamed up with Brienne Minor for the first time this season, as the duo grabbed a 6-2 doubles win at No. 1 against the Boilermakers.
Kate Fahey (Feb. 20)
Big Ten Athlete of the Week -- Junior Kate Fahey was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week after picking up a pair of singles wins at the No. 1 spot for Michigan over the weekend. Fahey knocked off Meghan Kelley of Virginia on Friday (Feb. 16), taking a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win at the top of the lineup. The junior extended her singles winning streak to nine straight with a 7-6, 6-1 win over No. 6 Alle Sanford of North Carolina on Sunday (Feb. 18). She is now ranked No. 17 by the ITA in singles.
Chiara Lommer (Feb. 13)
Big Ten Athlete of the Week -- Sophomore Chiara Lommer was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week after a perfect 3-0 mark in singles at last weekend's ITA National Team Indoor Championship (Feb. 9-11). Lommer won all three of her singles matches at the No. 2 position for the Maize and Blue and did not drop a set to run her win streak to six. Her run was highlighted by a win over No. 86 Taylor Russo of Auburn and avenging a January loss to Georgia Tech's Johnnise Renaud. She also teamed up with Lera Patiuk for a 1-1 record at No. 3 on the doubles court.
