Wolverines Complete Season, Finish Seventh at Big Ten Championships

» Michigan closed with a 295 final-round team tally to finish seventh at the Big Ten Championships with an 883 54-hole total.
» Kathy Lim (71-73-74) and Elodie Van Dievoet (74-72-72) led the Wolverines as they tied for 19th with 218 championships totals -- a season-low for Lim.
» Freshman Ashley Kim (76-74-76/226) and sophomore Hannah Ghelfi (82-74-77/233) competed in their first Big Ten postseason tournament, tying for 43rd and 65th, respectively.

MAINEVILLE, Ohio -- Using a pair of top 20 individual finishes by senior Kathy Lim and junior Elodie Van Dievoet, the University of Michigan women's golf team finished seventh with an 883 54-hole total on Sunday (April 22) at the 2019 Big Ten Championships held at the TPC's River's Bend. With its finish, the Wolverines have completed their 2017-18 schedule.
"We came into Big Tens knowing we needed to win in order to move further into the postseason," said U-M head coach Jan Dowling. "That's a difficult place to be, but we prepared well in the practice round and gave it our all. We had quite a few bright spots this week, and made a lot of birdies. It's disappointing to be finished with our season, but the trajectory and future of our program is extremely bright."
The Maize and Blue maintained its seventh-place position all three days. The Wolverines began the event with a 298 tally in Friday's opening round and followed with their championship-low 290 in yesterday's second round to hold on to the seventh spot.
In today's final 18 holes, Van Dievoet paced the Wolverines using three birdies and an eagle to give her a second straight even-par 72, while senior Emily White carded her tournament low with a 73 (+1) to help U-M produce an event closing 295 and give it an 883 three-round total and seventh-place finish.
Individually, Lim used her season-low 71 (-1) to spark her 228 total (71-73-74) as she, along with Van Dievoet, was the highest-finishing Wolverine, tying for 19th. Van Dievoet used rounds of 74 and back-to-back 72s (E) for her 228 total as she was the top finisher for the second straight year.
Playing in her first career Big Ten postseason tournament, freshman Ashley Kim bookend rounds of 76 around a 74 to tie for 43rd at 226. Sophomore Alisa Snyder equaled Kim's total as she rallied in the second round using a season-low 71 (-1) for her 226 (77-71-78). Rounding out the Wolverines' starting six, senior White (77-83-73) and sophomore Hannah Ghelfi (82-74-77), who played in her first Big Ten tournament, both tied for 65th at 233.
"It's hard to put into words what our group of seniors (Lim, White and Megan Kim) have done for this program," said Dowling. "We recruited them with the thought of putting Michigan women's golf on the map, and they've certainly done that. They contributed in a huge way by getting our team to the national championship two years in a row and having a perfect record at the NCAA Regionals. Additionally, they've earned too many academic awards to list here. They are an impressive group of young women that will be very successful at the next stage of their life, and that makes us all very proud."
Despite the season being complete, the NCAA regional selections will be broadcast live on the Golf Channel on Wednesday, April 25 at 5:30 p.m. The four regional sites begin play on Monday through Wednesday, May 7-9.
