AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team closed out its weekend at the Texas Invitational on Saturday (April 14) at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Only two student-athletes -- high jumper Katt Miner and sprinter Meghan Marias -- were in action for the Wolverines on the final day of the meet in Austin.
Miner survived and advanced to an outdoor Michigan career-best 1.68m (5 feet, 6 inches) in eighth place, clearing two consecutive heights on third-and-final attempts.
After making it over at 1.58m (5-2.5), she took it down to the wire at both 1.63m (5-4.25) and 1.68m to end up with her best performance of the season, indoors or out. She took three attempts at what would have been a best 1.73m (5-8) -- indoors or outdoors -- but could not get over the bar.
Marias took 17th overall at 100 meters, clocking a 12.17 with a substantial tailwind of 2.9 meters-per-second (m/s), good for fifth in her individual race. Her performance came after doubling back from a 24.78 (+1.7m/s) showing at 200 meters on Friday night that nearly matched her career best in the event.
Michigan's full team will be in action next weekend, albeit at different locations. Much of the team -- the core group of sprinters, jumpers and distance runners -- will be in action at the Stanford Cardinal Classic in Palo Alto, California, while select athletes will also compete at the Ohio State Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio.
