AUBURN, Ala. -- Playing among a strong field that featured eight of the nation's top 30 teams, the University of Michigan women's golf team took 12th place in the team standings to conclude the final day of the Evans Derby Experience at the Auburn University Club on Tuesday (March 20).
Led for the second competition in a row by freshman Ashley Kim, who finished tied for 44th with a 54-hole total of 225, the Wolverines posted a combined score of 913 to take 12th in a field that included four national top-10 teams and five others that appeared in the national rankings.
Michigan's third-day score of 300 was its best 18-hole round of the tournament, to improve on its Monday 302 and a 310 on Sunday.
"We didn't bring our 'A' games against the very best in the country. However, any time you compete against the best, you go through some implicit learning," head coach Jan Dowling said. "We will work hard the next two weeks for the Bryan National, which is another great opportunity we are excited about. The team is close and just requires more hard work and some adjustments, now and through the rest of our season."
Kim posted a score of 76 (+4) on Tuesday to follow up on scores of 73 (+1) and 76 (+3) in her first two rounds, respectively. Though she was not the Wolverine with the lowest score on the day -- that was junior Elodie Van Dievoet -- her performance was enough to make her the top Wolverine for the second tournament in a row, which dates back to her 18th-place tie at the 36-hole Meadow Club Women's Intercollegiate on March 5-6.
Van Dievoet bounced back from shooting 83 (+11) on Monday to post Michigan's best performance of the day on Tuesday with an even-par score of 72. Carding pars on 13 of 18 holes and draining three birdies -- including one on  the 18th hole -- her consistency was rewarded with her best round of her spring season.
She was one of just 28 women in the field to shoot par or better on the final day of competition.
Senior Emily White closed out the tournament with her best round of the weekend, with a 75 (+3) on the day on the strength of three consecutive birdies on Nos. 7-9.
Senior Kathy Lim rounded out her Evans Derby Experience with a final round score of 77 (+5), to match her opening-day score and trailed her second-day tally by just one stroke.
Sophomore Hannah Ghelfi, who recorded pars on 12 of her first 13 holes and sunk a birdie on the 14th, looked to be on track to match her opening-round 73 (+1), but was done in on her third- and fourth-to-last holes of the day by a double-bogey and a triple-bogey to finish the day at 78 (+6).
Sophomore Alisa Snyder, who played as individual, shot 77 (+5) on the final day to finish 48th overall, and closed the day strong with a birdie on her penultimate hole.
The Wolverines will close their regular-season tournament slate when they head to Greensboro, North Carolina, for Wake Forest and UNC Greensboro's Bryan National Collegiate, Friday through Sunday, April 6-8, at the Bryan Park Golf Course. U-M, which will make its third straight appearance, finished eighth last year with an 885 three-day total.
