
Michigan Completes Weekend with Win Against Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team rallied from a 2-0 deficit and won four of the last five singles matches on court to pick up its second straight win in a 4-3 victory over Nebraska on Sunday (March 18) at the Dillon Tennis Center.
Michigan fell in early holes at Nos. 1 and 2 in doubles action and could not recover, as the Huskers took a pair of 6-2 wins at the top two spots to take an early 1-0 lead.
Nebraska extended its lead to 2-0 with a straight-sets win at No. 5.
Michigan then went to work and won the next four matches off court to complete the comeback win. Sophomore Chiara Lommer started the streak with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2. Lommer took control early in both sets to win her second straight match.
It was much of the same story for freshman Bella Lorenzini at the No. 6 position. She won the first two games of the second set en route to a 6-2, 6-2 victory to even the team score.
Junior Brienne Minor won her second consecutive match with a straight-sets victory at No. 3 for U-M's third point of the afternoon.
It was junior Kate Fahey who clinched the match for the Wolverines, battling to a 7-5 first-set win before breezing to a 6-1 win in the second set. Fahey raced out to a 5-0 lead in the second set to take the victory, and pushed her singles win streak to 12 straight.Â
Nebraska won the final match on court to provide the final margin.
Michigan will continue Big Ten action on Friday (March 23), when the Wolverines travel to Minnesota to on the Gophers at 2 p.m. CDT.
