Coach Rosen Post-Match Interview
Senior outside hitter Carly Skjodt carried the Michigan offense with a match-high 17 kills behind a .325 hitting percentage. Freshman Paige Jones added seven kills, while junior Katarina Glavinic posted six. The Wolverines finished with a .250 team hitting percentage behind 29 assists from junior setter MacKenzi Welsh.
Defensively, Michigan totaled 59 digs behind a team-leading 18 from senior libero Jenna Lerg, which marked her 27th double-digit dig performance of the season. Sophomore Natalie Smith also contributed 12 digs, and Skjodt finished just one dig short of a double-double with nine. From the front row, the Maize and Blue totaled nine blocks, including a match-high six from sophomore Kiara Shannon.
The Wolverines jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the first set behind five kills from Skjodt before Navy called a timeout and cruised to an 18-9 lead to force another Navy timeout. The Mids answered with a 4-0 run and cut the Wolverine lead to five, 18-13, then worked to come within one at 21-20. Michigan never lost the lead, but Navy fought off back-to-back set points before a kill from Skjodt clinched the opening set, 25-23.
The teams traded points to begin the second set before a four-point scoring run pushed Michigan ahead to a 15-11 lead. The momentum shift allowed the Wolverines to rally for a 5-2 scoring run and a 20-13 lead, which forced the Mids' second timeout of the frame. Despite the surge by the Maize and Blue, Navy came from down seven to cut Michigan's lead to two, 21-19, before a double-block from Skjodt and redshirt junior Cori Crocker ignited a 4-1 run and pushed the Wolverines to a 25-20 second-set victory. Skjodt finished the frame with eight of the Wolverines' 12 kills.
Michigan dominated the third set and jumped out to a 6-0 lead before a Wolverine service error put Navy on the board. Behind a .324 team hitting percentage, the Maize and Blue maintained a hefty lead in the third set and rallied for a 10-point run before closing out the set, 25-10.
