KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Junior Jack Hallahan of the University of Michigan men's soccer team was named one of 15 semifinalists for the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy, per a joint announcement from the United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club on Tuesday (Nov. 27).
The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year. The top three vote-getters, as determined by the NCAA Division I coaches, will advance to the final ballot for the coveted award. The winners will be announced on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Hallahan, a junior from Redditch, England, played in all 21 matches this season (18 starts), helping lead Michigan to a 12-win campaign and an NCAA Tournament berth. He was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and was a unanimous All-Big Ten (first team) selection, accruing 24 points on eight goals and eight assists. Hallahan became the fifth player in program history to reach the 20-point plateau in back-to-back seasons (24 points in 2017). Hallahan was named to the 31-man MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List prior to the season.
At the end of the regular season, Hallahan led the Big Ten in shots (60) and finished third in goals, assists and points. He was the sixth player in program history named to the All-Big Ten first team in back-to-back seasons, joining Knox Cameron (2002-03), Jake Stacy (2007-08), Mauro Fuzetti (2008-09), Tyler Arnone (2012-13) and Francis Atuahene (2015-16). Among the school's all-time leaders, Hallahan ranks seventh in points (57) and assists (15), and is eighth in goals (21).
