ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's tennis coach Ronni Bernstein announced the signing of Andrea Cerdan and Nicole Hammond to National Letters of Intent on Thursday (Nov. 15). The duo will join Michigan for the 2019-20 academic year.
"I am excited adding Nicole and Andrea to our program," Bernstein said. "I think they're going to help us immediately. They are both really talented with a lot of upside, and are going to come here and compete hard for Michigan. I am excited about their potential, both as individuals and contributing to our team."
Cerdan is a blue-chip recruit from Bloomfield, New Jersey, who is ranked No. 14 in her class and the top recruit in New Jersey by TennisRecruiting. She won her third Bergen County Tournament large-schools first-singles crown in September after not playing high school tennis as a junior. In three seasons at Paramus Catholic, she has a pair of NJSIAA state singles tournament championships in addition to her three county titles. Cerdan won the doubles Gold Ball in 2016 at United States Girls National Hardcourts.
Hammond is a five-star recruit from Centreville, Virginia, who is ranked No. 27 by TennisRecruiting. She won the singles and doubles championships at the Phinma Week 1 event in 2017, while finishing as a semifinalist in the Week 2 edition. She advanced to the fourth round of both the USTA Winter Nationals in 2017 and USTA National Hard Courts in San Diego, California. She won the doubles championship of the 2018 Citi Open Wild Card tournament, earning a berth into the Citi Open main draw.
Michigan will lose seniors Kate Fahey and Brienne Minor to graduation following this season.
