
Six Men's Swimmers Wrap Up Summer Season at U.S. Open

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. -- University of Michigan men's swimmers Miles Smachlo, Charlie Swanson, Rob Zofchak, Alex Martin, Stephen Holmquist and Alex King concluded their summer competition season at at the 2017 U.S. Open, held Aug. 2-6 at the Nassau County Aquatics Center.
The U.S. Open is the third of four selection meets used to populate the 2017-18 U.S. National Team. The top six finishers in each Olympic event will make up the team, which will be announced shortly after the World University Games at the end of the month.
Of the swimmers in action, Swanson most notably improved his standing, vaulting to fifth nationally in the 400-meter IM with a runner-up finish at the U.S. Open (4:15.99, a PR). He also took third in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:12.84).

Smachlo put a cap on his impressive summer with two more finals berths, taking second in the 200-meter butterfly (1:57.73) and sixth in the 100-meter butterfly (53.32).
Also in New York were women's swimmers Gabby DeLoof, Catie DeLoof and Vanessa Krause.
