
Mikulak Posts Two Top-Three Finishes at P&G Championships

» Sam Mikulak, who competed on only two events due to injury, maintained his spot on the U.S. National Team after tying for second on pommel horse (29.600) and placing third on high bar (27.850).

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- University of Michigan men's gymnastics team alumnus Sam Mikulak (2011-14) maintained his spot on the United States National Team, while alum Adrian de los Angeles (2012-15), rising junior Anthony McCallum and incoming freshman Cameron Bock wrapped up competition at the 2017 P&G Championships held Thursday and Saturday (Aug. 17-19).
Mikulak, who had his streak of four U.S. national all-around titles snapped due to injury, competed on only two events while recovering from an Achilles tendon injury that he suffered at the Winter Cup. The veteran rose to the occasion on those two events, as he took second on pommel horse (29.600) and third on high bar (27.850). He will be a part of the six-man group that will represent the United States at the 2017 FIG World Championships Oct. 2-8 in Montreal.
De los Angeles, who has resided at the United States Olympic Training Center for the past year, competed in five events. The former Wolverine standout earned top-15 finishes on high bar (11th, 26.800) and pommel horse (13th, 26.700).
McCallum took 22nd in the all-around after scoring a 148.550, highlighted by a 20th-place finish on still rings (27.250). He was unable to land his signature event, vault, and settled for a 26th-place finish (26.900) on the table.
In his first senior competition, Bock tied for 17th in the all-around with a 158.250, highlighted by a 12th-place finish on pommel horse (26.800). He also finished 14th on still rings (27.800) and 15th on parallel bars (26.600).
