ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team won its third straight match, shutting out Indiana, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon (March 25) at the IU Varsity Tennis Courts.
Michigan got on the board quickly, winning the doubles point for the 1-0 lead. The No. 3 pair of junior Kara Hall and freshman Chiara Lommer raced to a 6-1 win as the first match off court.
The No. 2 duo of sophomore Brienne Minor and junior Mira Ruder-Hook clinched the first point, winning 6-3.
Michigan took control early in singles action as Lommer, Minor, junior Alex Najarian and senior Annie Wierda each took big leads in their respective first sets.
Lommer gave Michigan its second point of the day, not dropping a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5.
Minor was the next victorious Wolverine, taking advantage of fast starts in each set in the 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2.
Ruder-Hook was the clinching point as the junior took advantage of a late break in the first set for the 6-4 victory. It was all Ruder-Hook in the second set, as the Wolverine dropped just one game to take her match in two.
Michigan continues its Hoosier State swing on Sunday (March 26), taking on Purdue in West Lafayette at 11 a.m.
