WOLVERINE BITES
U-M is ranked 10th in the CGA Coaches Poll and 10th in the Road to Nationals standings. As a team, Michigan ranks in the top 10 in the NCAA on three events, highlighted by a fifth-place ranking on floor (70.250), fifth place on vault (70.400) and ninth on pommel horse (64.550). Individually, the Wolverines boast the top-ranked gymnast on floor exercise for the third week straight in Emyre Cole (1st, 14.825) along with Anthony Stefanelli (tied for 7th, 14.300). Additionally, Cole's individual 15.00 performance on vault at Oklahoma moved him up to the sixth spot in the nation (14.825).
Against Oklahoma, U-M set new season bests in terms of team total (400.800) and new marks on vault (70.95) and parallel bars (64.90). Additionally, Emyre Cole led U-M on vault, high bar, and floor and won the vault title with a 15.00 for his second event title of the season. Sophomores Samuel Su (pommel horse) and Ryan Dunning (still rings) were the other Wolverines to place in the top three on their respective events.
The 2017 Ohio State squad is ranked sixth overall (408.700) with top-10 team rankings on all six events, including third on pommel horse (68.000) and sixth on parallel bars (68.325), as well as eighth on floor (67.900) and high bar (66.625). Additionally, the Buckeyes feature Jake Martin, who sits at sixth in the all-around battle (83.400), as well as Jake Dastrup (14.475) and Sean Melton (14.400), who are listed, respectively, at sixth and seventh in the parallel bar standings.
The Wolverines are 18-8 all-time against the Buckeyes and have won nine of the last 10 matchups, including three dual meets in Columbus.
Following the road meet at Ohio State, the Wolverines will have a bye week, followed by a quartet of Wolverines (Dimitri Belanovski, Mitchell Brown, Anthony McCallum & Emyre Cole) taking part in the Winter Cup Challenge Feb. 16-18 in Las Vegas.
