Michigan Offense Dominates Ferris State

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan ice hockey used a dominant offensive performance to ease past visiting Ferris State, 7-2, Thursday night (Nov. 2) at Red Berenson Rink at Yost Ice Arena.
Sophomore Jake Slaker led the way for Michigan, scoring two goals and recording an assist for a career-high three points. Junior Cooper Marody also tallied three points (G, 2A). Marody has now recorded nine points in the last two games after tallying six points last weekend.
The Wolverines got off to a quick start on a goal from junior Joseph Cecconi at the 2:25 mark in the first period, with senior Sam Piazza and Marody recording assists on the play. Ferris State answered shortly thereafter, evening the score at 1. Michigan quickly regained the lead as sophomore Will Lockwood scored a power play goal at the 7:27 mark, assisted by freshman Quinn Hughes and Slaker.
The Wolverines took control of the game later in the first period when Marody put a shot past the Ferris State goaltender, scoring with under three minutes left in the first period. Senior captain Tony Calderone picked up an assist on Marody's goal as Michigan took a 3-1 lead over the Bulldogs.
Ferris State started off the second period strong and cut the Michigan lead in half on a goal just 33 seconds in. Despite many scoring chances, neither team was able to put a goal on the board the rest of the period and the Wolverines took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.
Michigan's offense exploded in the third period, started by a goal from Calderone at the 7:58 mark. The goal, Calderone's fourth of the season, was assisted by Marody and senior Dexter Dancs. Slaker then put a shot past the Ferris State goaltender for an unassisted goal and gave Michigan a 5-2 lead. Less than two minutes later, graduate student Alex Roos scored a goal to put the Wolverines up, 6-2. Roos' goal was assisted by sophomore Nick Pastujov and junior Nicholas Boka. Michigan scored its fourth goal of the period at the 16:47 mark when Slaker put a shot in the net, his second goal of the game. Slaker's goal was assisted by Lockwood and gave Michigan a 7-2 lead.

The Maize and Blue controlled the puck throughout the game, finishing with 51 shots. Michigan scored five or more goals for a third straight game, marking the first time the Wolverines have done so since March 2016.
Michigan has not lost to Ferris State in the last 14 matchups at Yost Ice Arena, recording 12 wins and two ties during that span. The Wolverines improve their record against its former CCHA foe to 71-30-4 and 44-10-2 at home.
