THINGS TO KNOW
The Greater Louisville Classic is in its 15th consecutive year of being hosted by the Greater Louisville Sports Commission, and for several years it has been among the year's most important regular-season meets.
The top two men's and women's teams will receive awards this weekend, and special recognition will be given to the top 25 finishers of each race.
E.P. Tom Sawyer Park, which hosted the NCAA Championships last fall, will host the Division II Championships this year and will again host the Division I meet in 2017.
Last fall, U-M went one-two across the finish line to win this meet, with Shannon Osika following Erin Finn across the line.
This will be the fourth meet in the last two years that U-M has run at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park. Last fall, U-M ran the Greater Louisville Classic and NCAA Pre-Nationals meets there during the regular season before returning for the NCAA Championships.
Last weekend, U-M ran in the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota. U-M placed fifth overall and second among Big Ten programs and had a chance to preview the site of the Big Ten Championships next month (Oct. 30).
Finn was individual runner-up in that meet and was rewarded with Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors on Wednesday (Sept. 28). That marks her second such recognition this season and the seventh of her career. She is currently ranked No. 3 in the Saucony Flo50 individual rankings.
Under head coach Mike McGuire, U-M has won six of its last eight regular-season scored meets dating back to 2014.
The Wolverines are currently ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Great Lakes Region and were tabbed No. 14 in the USTFCCCA Coach's Poll (as of September 27).
Earlier this month, McGuire announced that Gina Sereno and Jaimie Phelan will serve as team captains for the 2016 season.
