Postgame Notes: #4 Michigan 49, Penn State 10

• Michigan improved to 50-12-2 all-time in Big Ten Conference openers. The Wolverines have won 33 of their last 35 conference openers.
• The Wolverines also improved to a 13-7 record in the all-time series against Penn State and are now 7-3 in meetings at Michigan Stadium. U-M's 39-point margin of victory in the largest, by either team, in the history of the series.
• Michigan has combined for 208 total points over its first four games of the 2016 season -- the most over that stretch in program history.
• The last time Michigan scored 40 or more points in each of its first four games was 1947 -- Michigan State (55-0), Stanford (49-13), Pittsburgh (69-0) and Northwestern (49-21).
• U-M posted four 40-plus games over the last two seasons combined -- a span of 25 games. The Wolverines boast four through four games this year.
• Today's honorary captain was alumnus Don Graham, the founder of Michigan's Graham Sustainability Institute.
• Michigan earned six rushing touchdowns from five different players. Wolverine running backs combined for 321 rushing yards on 44 carries.
• Senior running back De'Veon Smith carried the ball 12 times for 107 yards and a touchdown. It is his sixth career 100-yard rushing game and his first of the season. He scored on a two-yard touchdown run in the first quarter -- his 14th career rushing touchdown and second in as many games.
• Sophomore running back Karan Higdon posted his first multi-touchdown game on a two-yard rush in the second quarter and 40-yard rush in the fourth. He also posted career bests with nine carries and 81 rushing yards. His previous best in rushing yards was 35, which he recorded in the season opener vs. Hawaii.
• Senior fullback Khalid Hill recorded his fourth touchdown of the season on a one-yard rush in the first quarter. Hill, who entered the season with no collegiate touchdowns, has scored in all but one game this season.
• Freshman tight end Devin Asiasi recorded his first career touchdown on a three-yard reception -- also the first of his career -- in the second quarter.
• Fifth-year senior wide receiver Amara Darboh posted seven receptions to extend his streak of consecutive games with a reception to 24; he is tied for 10th with Desmond Howard (1989-91) for 10th among U-M's all-time leaders in the category. Senior tight end Jake Butt moved into a share of 12th on the same list -- tied with Anthony Carter (1979-82) -- with 20 consecutive games with a reception.
• Michigan posted a season-best six sacks -- its most since tallying six against Northwestern 2014. U-M has averaged 4.25 sacks per game this season. Penn State allowed only five sacks combined in its first three games.
• Fifth-year senior defensive end Chris Wormley and senior defensive end Taco Charlton both posted 1.5 sacks against Penn State, becoming the second and third Wolverine players to earn multiple sacks in game this season. Charlton has 3.5 over last two appearances against PSU, while Wormley has three.
• Senior linebacker Mike McCray recorded his first career interception, returning it for 22 yards, in the fourth quarter. He has also posted his first collegiate sack and first collegiate pass breakup over the Wolverines' first four games.
• Freshman cornerback Lavert Hill posted his first career fumble recovery, returning it for 17 yards, in the fourth quarter. Freshman linebacker Josh Uche forced the fumble -- his second in as many games this season.
• Junior linebacker Jabrill Peppers posted a 53-yard punt return in the first quarter; it marks his third return -- and second punt return -- of 50-plus yards this season.
• Senior cornerback Jourdan Lewis, who made his season debut today against PSU, recorded two pass breakups to move to third on Michigan's list of career PBU leaders with 34. He shares the spot with Marlin Jackson (2001-04).
• Senior cornerback Channing Stribling posted his first multi-PBU effort tonight.
• Today's announced attendance of 110,319 marks the 269th consecutive game of more than 100,000 fans at Michigan Stadium.
