TEMPE, Ariz. -- Senior Ronit Yurovsky, sophomore Mira Ruder-Hook and freshman Brienne Minor of the University of Michigan women's tennis team each picked up All-America honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Thursday (June 9). It marks the first time U-M has had three All-Americans in one season.
Yurovsky earned the first All-America citation of her career, picking up the distinction in singles after finishing the season with a No. 12 ranking and earning a No. 9-16 seed for the NCAA Singles Championship. Her No. 12 season-ending ranking is the second-best in school history behind Denise Muresan's No. 6 ranking to end the 2011 season. A captain during her senior season, Yurovsky became the first Wolverine in school history to go 4-0 during the NCAA Tournament, winning all four of her singles matches at the No. 1 position. She finished the season with a 27-11 mark, including an 18-5 record at No. 1. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Yurovsky leaves Michigan with a sport management degree and the third-most singles wins in a career (117).
Minor becomes just the second player in school history to earn singles and doubles All-America honors in a season, joining Muresan (2011). Minor completed her freshman season with a 36-10 singles mark and a No. 19 singles ranking. She won the 2015 ITA Midwest Regional singles title, picked up All-Big Ten accolades and competed in both the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. She joins Marian Kremer (1981) as U-M freshmen to earn singles All-America honors.
Minor paired up with Ruder-Hook on the doubles court as the duo put together a 17-6 mark, finishing the season with a No. 7 national ranking. The duo knocked off the No. 1-ranked doubles team twice this season during dual-match action (Kentucky and North Carolina) and earned the Big Ten's automatic bid to the NCAA Doubles Championship. It is the first national honor for Ruder-Hook, who led Michigan in doubles wins this past season with 31.
Michigan now has seven All-America singles citations and six doubles honors in its history, with all but one coming during ninth-year head coach Ronni Bernstein's tenure.
To be a singles All-American, a player must be a top 16 seed in the NCAA Singles Championship, reach the round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championship, or finish in the top 20 of the final Oracle/ITA national rankings. To be a doubles All-American, a team must be a top eight seed in the NCAA Doubles Championship, reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship, or finish in the top 10 of the final Oracle/ITA national rankings.
