
Mikulak Secures Spot on U.S. Olympic Team

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Former University of Michigan men's gymnast Sam Mikulak secured his place on the 2016 United States Olympic Team on Saturday (June 25) at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials at the Chaifetz Center. The Team USA standout compiled the top all-around score of 362.750, besting fellow Olympic team members Chris Brooks (358.075) and Jake Dalton (356.525).
The all-around standings, which includes scores from the two days of competition at the 2016 P&G Gymnastics Championships and two days of competition at the Olympic Trials, saw Mikulak mark all-around totals of 90.650 on day one of the qualifier and 90.600 on day two to maintain the top spot in qualifying from wire to wire.
Mikulak, Brooks, Dalton, John Orozco and Alex Naddour will consist of the five-man team. Donnell Whittenburg, Akash Modi and Dannell Levya will serve as alternates.

Mikulak, a member of the 2012 London Olympic Team, helped the squad take fifth and also placed fifth in the vault competition. Men's artistic gymnastics will be contested Aug. 6-16 at Rio Olympic Arena at Barra Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
