
Wolverines Rally to Top Purdue Outdoors

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team rallied after dropping the doubles point to win five singles matches and knock off Purdue, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon (March 27) at the Varsity Tennis Center. The match marks Michigan's first outdoor match at the VTC this season.
The Boilermakers grabbed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 1.
Michigan wasted no time in singles action, winning four first sets. Sophomore Mira Ruder-Hook was the first Wolverine off court, not dropping a game en route to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4.
Senior Ronit Yurovsky was right behind Ruder-Hook, winning 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 as Michigan took its first lead of the day at 2-1.
Purdue answered with a straight-set win at No. 6, but sophomore Alex Najarian provided a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 5 for Michigan's third point. Najarian came through winning a deuce point to break at 4-3 in the second and held serve the rest of the way in the win.
Freshman Brienne Minor was Michigan's fourth and deciding point on the afternoon, grinding out a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2. Minor broke a 3-3 tie in the first set by winning the final three games. In the second, Minor broke early and took an identical 6-3 victory.
With the team match in hand, freshman Kate Fahey rallied from dropping the first set (6-3) to win the final two, 6-2, 6-1 to provide the final margin.
Michigan continues Big Ten action next weekend, first traveling to Wisconsin on Saturday (April 2) for an 11 a.m. CDT match.
