
Atuahene, Eckenrode and Hallahan Garner All-B1G Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- On the eve of the start of the 2016 Big Ten Tournament, four members of the University of Michigan men's soccer team earned were honored by the Big Ten Conference Friday (Nov. 4). Sophomore Francis Atuahene took home first team honors for the second straight year, senior Lars Eckenrode garnered second team honors, and freshman Jack Hallahan collected an all-freshman team honor.
Atuahene, who leads the team in goals with six, assists with four, and points with 16, collects his second career first team honor, becoming only the fifth player in U-M history to earn a pair of first team honors. He is the first Wolverine to earn the honors in his freshman and sophomore seasons. The six goals tie him for fifth in the league, while the 16 points rank No. 6. With two seasons remaining in his Wolverine career, the Accra, Ghana, native sits in seventh in the U-M career record books with 16 goals in his career.
Eckenrode, a 2016 team captain, earns his second Big Ten honor after being named to the all-freshman team (2013). In his senior season, he has started all 17 matches for the Maize and Blue in central defense, playing a team-high 1,630 minutes. A four-year starter, he has suited up in 67 matches as a Wolverine and is the fourth defender in U-M history to earn All-Big Ten second team honors.
Hallahan, a freshman from Redditch, England, leads all Big Ten freshmen in goals with four in his initial campaign in Ann Arbor, highlighted by a match-winner against Penn State (Oct. 2). The four markers are the second-most goals for a U-M freshman in the last five years. The dynamic winger is second on the team in shots with 38. He also leads the freshman class in matches started with 15.
In addition to Michigan's three All-Big Ten honors, senior Andre Morris was recognized by the league as U-M's Big Ten Sportsmanship honoree. A four-year contributor, Morris has played in 54 matches in his Wolverine career and has been lauded for his leadership and fair play.
The eighth-seeded Wolverines will face No. 9 seed Rutgers in the opening round of the 2016 Big Ten Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 5) at 1 p.m. The opening round of the tournament, as well as the quarterfinals, will be contested at Ludwig Field in College Park, Maryland. [ Release ]
