ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team had four players score in double figures as the Wolverines dispatched of Wayne State, 93-41, in exhibition action on Thursday night (Nov. 3) inside Crisler Center.
Junior Katelynn Flaherty led all scorers with 17 points, while sophomore Nicole Munger went for 16 points on 5-for-7 shooting with five rebounds and two steals off the bench. Senior point guard Siera Thompson went for 12 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Sophomore Hallie Thome rounded out Michigan's double-figure scorers, putting in 12 points with five boards. Junior Jillian Dunston grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds as U-M held a 53-28 advantage at the break.
The Wolverines raced out to an 11-3 lead in the first three minutes of the game, taking advantage of five Flaherty points, baskets from senior Danielle Williams and Thome to go with a pair of junior Maria Backman free throws. U-M led 26-15 after the first 10 minutes.
Sophomore Nicole Munger heated up in the second quarter, hitting back-to-back triples with a little more than a minutes left before the half to give Michigan a 43-18 lead. Thome split a pair of free throws as the Wolverines hit the halftime break with a 46-20 lead.
The Maize and Blue outscored the Warriors, 27-9, in the third quarter for a 73-29 lead entering the fourth quarter.
U-M led by as many as 55 points in the final quarter, taking a 93-41 win over Wayne State when the final buzzer sounded. Each of the 12 Wolverines who saw the court found the scoring column.
Michigan kicks off the regular season next Friday (Nov. 11), hosting Oakland at 6:30 p.m.
