• The Wolverines improved to 64-29-2 in the all-time series against Illinois and 33-11-1 in home contests against the Fighting Illini. Michigan also improved to 90-28-2 on homecoming and has won 18 of its last 22 homecoming games.
• Michigan is now 7-0 for the first time since 2006 and just the fourth time in 40 years (1986, 1997, 2006, 2016).
• Today's honorary captain was baseball hall of famer Henry Aaron. The MLB record holder for career home runs for 33 years, Aaron was the 1957 National League MVP and a 25-time All-star. His granddaughter, Emily Haydel, is a current Michigan student and sports director at WOLV-TV.
• Michigan saw its streak of consecutive quarters without allowing a point halted at eight with Illinois' fourth-quarter touchdown. Over that eight-quarter stretch, U-M outscored its opposition, 119-0, and outgained them, 1,125-204.
• With 28 rushing touchdowns through its first seven games of the 2016 season, Michigan has already surpassed last season's 13-game total for rushing touchdowns (27).
• Sophomore running back Karan Higdon carried the ball eight times for 106 yards and a touchdown. It is his second straight game with 100 rushing yards. He posted a career-long 45-yard rush for a touchdown in the fourth quarter -- his sixth touchdown this season and fifth in three games. He has posted a 40-yard rush in each of the last three games.
• Freshman wide receiver Eddie McDoom posted a career-long reception on 33-yard catch and tied his career-long rush with a 19-yard run -- both in the first quarter. With the 33-yard reception, he also posted a career best in receiving yards; his previous best was 15, which he recorded in the season opener vs. Hawaii.
• Senior tight end Jake Butt posted his fourth touchdown of the season -- 11th of his career -- on a three-yard catch in the first quarter. He gained sole possession of second place on Michigan's list of career touchdowns by a tight end, now just four behind leader Jerame Tuman (15, 1995-98). It is also his 23rd straight game with a reception.
• Sophomore tight end Tyrone Wheatley recorded his first collegiate touchdown -- on his first collegiate reception -- on a 21-yard catch in the first quarter. He is now part of first father-son combination since Stan and Braylon Edwards to both score touchdowns as Michigan student-athletes.
• Senior wide receiver Amara Darboh extended his streak of consecutive games with a catch to 27 and now holds sole possession of the sixth spot among Michigan leaders in the category. He needs four more games to reach the fifth spot, currently held by Mercury Hayes (30, 1992-95).
• Senior fullback Khalid Hill scored his eighth rushing touchdown -- ninth total -- of the season on a one-yard rush late in the first quarter. He has just 15 carries on the season. Hill has scored in all but one game this season.
• Senior running back De'Veon Smith posted his second touchdown of the season -- and his 15th career rushing touchdown -- on a four-yard run in the second quarter.
• Freshman wide receiver Nate Johnson recorded his first career reception with a four-yard catch in the third quarter.
• The Wolverines held Illinois to total 172 yards -- 77 rushing yards and 95 passing yards. It is the fourth straight game that U-M has held an opponent to less than 200 yards. Michigan held the Fighting Illini without a passing yard in the first half.
