PRINCETON, N.J. -- Sophomore Kendall Brewer and graduated seniors Jessica Eiffert and Alex Spaulding were named to the 59-person 2015 USA Under-23 National Team roster that will compete at the upcoming 2015 World Rowing Under-23 Championships July 22-26 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, the United States Rowing Association announced late yesterday (Thursday, July 10).
The three rowers participated in a month-long selection camp at Princeton University, with Eiffert earning her selection to the team via her spot on the women's pair, which won at the U23 World Championships Trials on June 21-24 in West Windsor, N.J.
Brewer was selected for the No. 3 seat in the women's quadruple sculls. A CRCA All-Region second team selection, Brewer was a member of the USRowing Junior National Team and participated in USRowing events before arriving at Michigan. The Austin, Texas, native earned a spot on Michigan's first varsity eight this past season, one of two freshmen to row on the 1V8 crew in 2014-15.
Eiffert will compete at her second U23 World Championships, after rowing in the bow seat of the gold-medal-winning women's eight crew last year in Varese, Italy. She also earned a silver medal in the women's pair with partner Aggie Nowinski (California). A three-time Pocock All-American and an All-Big Ten first team selection rowing in the stroke seat of U-M's 1V8, Eiffert will row in the pair with partner Georgia Ratcliff and as the No. 7 seat in the women's eight.
Spaulding, a Pocock All-America second team and All-Big Ten first team selection, will represent the United States for the first time in international competition. She will row in the bow seat of the women's eight with USRowing. Spaulding started in the novice program as a freshman at Michigan and earned a spot on the 1V8 before the start of this past season.
