ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Three University of Michigan rowers were invited to the 2015 USRowing U23 National Team Selection Camp, the United States Rowing Association announced today (Tuesday, May 12). Freshman Kendall Brewer, and seniors Jessica Eiffert and Alex Spaulding will attend the camp, beginning on June 7 at Princeton University in preparation for the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, from July 22-26.
All three rowers are members of Michigan's first varsity eight crew this season. Eiffert is a four-year 1V8 rower, while Brewer and Spaulding joined the boat this season.
Brewer was a member of the USRowing Junior National Team and participated in USRowing events before arriving at Michigan. A native of Austin, Texas, Brewer won a silver medal in the junior women's quad at the 2013 World Rowing Junior Championships, and represented the Texas Rowing Center at the 2013 USRowing Club National Championships, finishing first in the senior and intermediate quad.
Eiffert, a two-time Pocock All-American, was a member of the U23 USRowing National Team last summer at the 2014 World Rowing U23 Championships in Varese, Italy. Eiffert earned two medals, gold in the women's eight and silver in the women's pair. Eiffert has rowed in USRowing events dating back to 2008, and competed twice (2010, 2011) in the World Rowing Junior Championships.
Spaulding will participate in her first USRowing event with her invitation to the selection camp. A four-sport athlete at Watervliet (Michigan) High School, Spaulding started in the novice program as a freshman at Michigan, earning a spot on the 1V8 before the start of this season.
Brewer, Eiffert and Spaulding will lead the Wolverines this weekend at the 2015 Big Ten Rowing Championships at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Indiana, beginning with heats on Saturday, May 16, at 5 p.m.
