The Wolverines finish the 2014-15 season with a record of 22-15-0 (12-8-0-0), the most wins for the hockey program since the 2011-12 season (24). Michigan had winning records against three of the other five Big Ten programs, (4-0 vs. Wisconsin, 3-1 vs. Ohio State, 4-2 vs. Michigan State, 1-3 vs. Penn State, 2-3 vs. Minnesota).
Michigan and Minnesota have now met 14 times in postseason play, with the Gophers owning an 8-4-2 record in those contests. The two teams met eight times when both were members of the WCHA concurrently from 1959-1981 but never met in a conference championship game before tonight's contest. Michigan is now 2-2 all-time in the Big Ten Tournament.
Michigan played Minnesota at Joe Louis Arena for just the second time tonight and is now 1-1 all-time against the Gophers at JLA. Before tonight, the Wolverines earned a 4-3 (OT) win over the Gophers in the 1996 College Hockey Showcase on Nov. 29, 1996. The Wolverines are 103-49-5 (.672) all-time at The Joe.
Zach Hyman (G, A) notched his 17th multiple-point game tonight and finished the campaign with a Big Ten-leading 54 points (22G, 32A). He is the first U-M player to top 50 points in a single season since Carl Hagelin, who had 50 points (19G, 31A) in 2009-10. Hyman is the first U-M player to reach 20 goals since Louie Caporusso had 21 goals in 2009-10. Hyman finished the season with the most points by a Michigan player in a single season since Chad Kolarik (56 points) and Kevin Porter (63 points) in 2007-08. Michigan lost for just the second time this season (15-2-0) when Hyman scored a goal.
Alex Kile (G), who snapped a 14-game goal scoring drought last night, scored a second-period power-play goal and finished the season with 26 points (13G, 13A) after notching six points in his freshman campaign. Kile led the team with seven power-play goals
Steve Racine fell to 7-2-0 in postseason play but was outstanding in net, making 29 saves, including 20 saves on 20 shots in the first period. Racine won four of five Michigan games played at Joe Louis Arena and is now 5-2 all-time at JLA.
Dylan Larkin led all Big Ten freshmen with 47 points (15G, 32A) on the season. Larkin has the most points by a Michigan freshman since Brendan Morrison had 48 points (20G, 28A) in 1993-94. His 32 assists are the most by a Michigan freshman since Aaron Palushaj had 34 assists in 2007-08.
Michigan's power play added two goals tonight and finished the season with PPGs in four straight games. Michigan was 12-for-36 (33.3%) over its last 10 games on the man advantage.
Cristoval 'Boo' Nieves notched an assist tonight and finished the season with points in three straight games (G, 3A), all in the Big Ten Tournament. Nieves has the most postseason points of anyone on the Michigan roster (G, 7A) and finished the season with 28 points (7G, 21A) overall.
