Sophomore Adam Coon is the Wolverines' first NCAA finalist since Kellen Russell claimed his second title in 2012. U-M has boasted nine NCAA finalists since 2005. Coon is the first U-M heavyweight to reach the finals since Kirk Trost captured the title in 1986.
Michigan's five NCAA All-Americans match the second-largest contingent in U-M program history, a mark the Wolverines' have achieved on eight previous occasions, most recently in 2007. The Maize and Blue boasted six All-Americans in 1965 with Robert Fehrs (123), Bill Johannesen (137), Lee Dietrick (147), Chris Stowell (177), Robert Spaly (191) and Mike Koehler (Hwt).
The Wolverine five All-America accolades up Michigan's overall program total to 181 since 1928. U-M ranks fifth among all Division I programs in the category.
All five U-M All-Americans matched or bettered their seed.
Head coach Joe McFarland has now coached 21 different Wolverines to 37 NCAA All-America citations during his nine-year tenure at Michigan.
