Michigan now owns a 67-54-8 record all-time against Wisconsin and is unbeaten in its last five games against the Badgers (4-0-1), the Wolverines' longest unbeaten streak in the series since a 10 game run (9-0-1) from Nov. 25, 1994 to Nov. 29, 2002. Michigan is unbeaten (4-0-1) in its last five games at home against the Badgers dating back to 2005.
The Wolverines improved to 11-2-0 at Yost Ice Arena this season and have won eight straight home games, their longest home winning streak since a 14-game winning streak during the 2010-11 season.
Steve Racine made 22 saves to earn his first career shutout in net, the third shutout by the Wolverines this season. The three shutouts are the most by the Wolverines in a single season since 2011-12 (six shutouts).
Zach Hyman had a goal and an assist to record his team-leading 14th multiple point game of the season. He leads the Big Ten with 45 points (19G, 26A). His current scoring pace (1.55 points/game, No. 2 in the nation) exceeds Kevin Porter's (1.47 points/game) during his Hobey Baker Award winning campaign in 2007-08. Hyman entered this season with 35 points (13G, 22A) in his first three seasons combined.
Hyman is one goal shy of becoming the first Michigan player to reach 20 goals in a single season since Louie Caporusso had 21 goals in 2009-10.
Freshman defenseman Zach Werenski notched a goal and an assist and leads all Big Ten defensemen with eight goals on the year. Werenski leads U-M blueliners with 23 points (8G, 15A) on the season. Werenski is second among Big Ten defensemen in points (0.85 points/game). Werenski is on pace to near Jack Johnson's scoring record (32 points in 2005-06) for freshman defensemen at Michigan.
Michigan was a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill against the Badgers, marking the seventh time in the last eight games (23-for-24, 95.8%) that the Wolverines have not allowed a power-play goal. Michigan's penalty kill is now 81-for-98 (82.7%) overall on the season.
Michigan scored two or more power-play goals for the eighth time this season, and are now 7-1-0 on the season when scoring multiple goals on the man advantage.
Michigan has four of the top five players in Big Ten plus/minus, starting with Zach Hyman, who was +4 tonight against the Buckeyes. Hyman leads the conference at +22 and is No. 4 in the nation in plus/minus. Zach Werenski (3rd, +17), Dylan Larkin (4th, +16), and Justin Selman (5th, +13) are also among the conference leaders.
Both Dylan Larkin (assist tonight) and Zach Hyman have points in three straight games. Hyman has had four point streaks of three games or more this season and for Larkin it's his third point streak of three games or more.
