ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's tennis head coach Ronni Bernstein announced on Tuesday (Dec. 8) that senior Ronit Yurovsky will serve as team captain for the 2015-16 season.
"Being named team captain is a huge honor for me," Yurovsky said. "I feel very special knowing that the rest of the team and coaches respect and trust me to lead the team in the right direction. I am excited to take on a leadership position and demonstrate my compassion to the team on and off the court."
The senior is currently ranked No. 19 in the country and went 5-5 in tournament action after playing in all three national tournaments this fall: 2015 Oracle/ITA Masters, Riviera/ITA All-American and USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.
Yurovsky ended her junior campaign ranked No. 31 in singles by the ITA after going 34-10 on the season. She was 17-1 on the season at No. 2 and 4-2 at No. 1 for a 21-3 dual-match record. Yurovsky was a unanimous All-Big Ten selection for the third straight season and participated in the NCAA Singles Championship a season ago.
U-M resumes action by hosting the Michigan Invitational, Jan. 16-18, at the Varsity Tennis Center. Dual-match play will begin the following weekend (Jan. 23-24) as the Maize and Blue host San Francisco, Kentucky and Dartmouth in the ITA Kick-Off.
