ROSEMONT, Ill. -- University of Michigan ice hockey senior forward Justin Selman was named Big Ten Second Star of the Week today (Tuesday, Dec. 8).
Selman led Michigan with four points and three goals on the weekend, helping Michigan earn five out of a possible six points against Wisconsin to open Big Ten play. On Friday night (Dec. 4) against the Badgers, Selman scored the game-tying goal in the second period as Michigan rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to tie the game at 4-4 en route to a 6-4 win.
On Saturday (Dec. 5), Selman had two goals and an assist, blocked two shots, and was plus-3 on the night. He had a hand in all three of Michigan's first-period goals, notching the primary assist on the first goal of the night by senior forward Cristoval 'Boo' Nieves, scoring his first career shorthanded goal at 4:38 of the frame and adding another score at 15:45 of the frame. The three points were the most by Selman in a single game this season.
Selman has been honored twice with Big Ten weekly awards this season (Third Star, Oct. 20) and has three career weekly honors. He is fourth on the team in scoring with 12 points (6G, 6A) on the season.
No. 9 Michigan (8-2-3, 1-0-1-1) will continue Big Ten play this weekend with Minnesota (6-7-0, 2-0-0-0) in town for a two game series, starting with Friday night's (Dec. 11) contest at 7:05 p.m.
