
Perez-Rivera Represents Puerto Rico at World Championships

GLASGOW, Scotland -- University of Michigan men's gymnast Tristian Perez-Rivera competed Monday (Oct. 26) at the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, as a member of Team Puerto Rico. Perez-Rivera, a 2014 NCAA All-American, competed in all-around competition for the first time in his career.
Perez-Rivera boosted Team Puerto Rico's score with a 14.033 on both floor exercise and vault. The four-year member of Puerto Rico's senior national team also earned a 13.733 on parallel bars and a 13.600 on pommel horse in addition to marking a 12.200 on rings and an 11.833 on high bar. As a team, Puerto Rico finished 21st out of 24 teams, failing to advance to team finals.
Former undergraduate assistant coach and U-M standout Sam Mikulak withdrew from the World Championships due to an ankle injury, but he figures to compete with Team USA in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Team USA placed fifth in the World Championships qualifying round and will continue competition on Wednesday (Oct. 28) in team finals.
