ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Junior Erin Finn of the second-ranked University of Michigan women's cross country team was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week on Wednesday (Oct. 21).
Finn received her fifth career conference honor after a sixth-place showing at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet on Saturday (Oct. 17). The West Bloomfield, Michigan, native led the Wolverines once again, as she has in each of the last nine races she has competed in dating back to 2013.
This time, Finn led the Maize and Blue to its biggest team win of the season, and its third straight win in scored meets. U-M totaled 131 points, topping seven ranked teams in the process, including four top-10 programs.
It comes as the second Big Ten honor for Finn in the past three weeks; she also took the award after winning the individual title at the Greater Louisville Classic (Oct. 3), helping U-M to a team victory there as well.
The meet was also held at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park, the host site of the 2015 NCAA Championships (Nov. 21). Michigan has competed in two meets at the nationals course so far this season (Greater Louisville Classic, Pre-Nationals).
U-M, which has moved up to No. 2 in the most recent USTFCCCA Coaches' Poll, gets back on the course this Friday (Oct. 23) with the EMU Classic at the nearby Dexter Mills Metropark in Dexter, Michigan. The race will begin at 4:30 p.m.
