Maize & Blue Set to Host Michigan Invitational
Each week, we will give fans an inside look at the Michigan volleyball program with the At the Net blogs. This week, senior/junior Olivia Reed talks about the Block Out Bullying event, spin class and playing in Crisler.
Monday, the team was back in the gym for individual practices, and we also had several strength and conditioning tests this week. Our strength tests included squats, incline bench and power cleans. Everyone performed very well and passed all of our testing. Next Monday, we will finish our testing with the shuttle run and jumping flags.
Several members of the team and Leisa went to Bach Elementary this week to discuss how to block-out bullying. They spoke about their own experiences in school and how to make a change. Later in the week before practice, we shot a video for our Block-Out Bullying match on Friday. Everyone wrote down a word or phrase such as "be confident," and the signs we made were to be given to the kids who attended the match against Youngstown State Friday morning.
On Tuesday after practice, we had our weekly spin class with our strength and conditioning coach Mike Favre. We often joke about having spin class until we get on the bike and realize how quickly we can become drenched in sweat! Claire said the next day that when she rides her bike to class, the hills seem like nothing now.
On Thursday, we had a practice in Crisler to prepare for the match against Youngstown State and the future game we will have there against Michigan State on Senior Night. Playing in Crisler is always fun and has a great atmosphere. After practice several girls went over to Mott Children's Hospital, where student-athletes can visit with kids every Thursday evening.
After a busy week of training, we can't wait to compete at home this weekend. We hope to end our preseason strong before starting up the Big Ten Season next week!
