
Wolverines Unable to Hold Off Hot-Shooting Tigers

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Princeton team, dropping an 85-55 decision to the Tigers on Tuesday evening (Dec. 9) at Crisler Center. For the game, Princeton shot 58.3 percent (35-of-60) from the field and 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from three-point range.
Michigan was led by senior Cyesha Goree, who had 14 points to go along with five rebounds and two blocks. Freshman Katelynn Flaherty had 11 points and three assists, while junior Madison Ristovski netted eight points, including a pair of threes. Senior Nicole Elmblad had a team-high six rebounds, and sophomore Siera Thompson dished out five assists.
After exchanging baskets in the early going, Michigan regained a 13-12 lead on a Flaherty three-point play with 10:20 showing on the first-half clock.
Princeton scored 24 of the next 31 points to take a 36-20 lead off a three-pointer with 3:20 left before the half. Michigan scored on its ensuing possession to trim the lead to 14, but Princeton accounted for seven of the next 11 points to hit the break with a 43-26 lead.
The Tigers shot 56.2 percent (18-for-32) from the floor in the first half compared to 40.7 (11-for-27) for the Wolverines. Goree led the way with eight points and three rebounds, with Flaherty chipping in five points off the bench. Elmblad went for four points and four rebounds, but Michigan was outrebounded in the frame by Princeton, 19-11.
The Tigers continued their hot shooting in the second half, hitting 17-of-28 shots (60.7 percent) in the final 20 minutes. The Tigers led by as many as 34 points in the second en route to the win.
Michigan returns to the floor on Saturday (Dec. 13), taking on No. 5 Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
