Their only loss is to Virginia Tech (233-120). Penn State is led in the water by junior Shane Ryan, the reigning conference champion in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke and Nate Savoy, a five-time NCAA All-American who was Big Ten Freshman of the Year back in 2012.
Virginia
The Cavaliers are 1-0 on the season, defeating Navy, 183-117, back on Oct. 24 in Charlottesville, Va. Last season, they finished fourth at the ACC Championships and 26th at the NCAA Championships. Among the athletes to watch include senior diver JB Kolod, an NCAA All-American on three-meter last season, and a pair of NCAA All-America honorable mentions in Yannick Kaeser (200-yard breaststroke) and Luke Papendick (200-yard backstroke).
SERIES HISTORY
Michigan is 8-0 all-time against Penn State. The two teams last met in 2012, with the Wolverines winning, 262-72. This weekend will also mark the first meeting between Michigan and Virginia.
DUAL-MEET SUCCESS
Over the last six years, Michigan is 53-3-1 in dual meets, including a 33-1 mark against Big Ten opponents. In that same stretch, the Wolverines are 24-1 in dual meets at Canham Natatorium. The only dual-meet loss to a Big Ten opponent during that stretch came to Indiana, 163-137, back in 2010.

Michigan came in at No. 1 in the first poll from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) last Thursday (Oct. 30). The rankings, compiled by nine CSCAA-member coaches and one media member, is not designed to predict the results of the NCAA Championship, but rather which teams would win head-to-head against other teams in the country. The Wolverines defeated Texas (183-170), Louisville (237-116) and Indiana (242.5-110.5) in front of large crowds back on Oct. 24-25 at Canham Natatorium. Texas actually won more events over the two days than Michigan (10-7), but the Wolverines won three of the four relays and used depth to secure wins over all three opponents.
