Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On the importance of starting strong after a slow start last night ... "It was important. Regardless of the score, I was really impressed with that team and the way they played all weekend. They're hard to play against, and they don't give you much. It could have been a 1-0 game either way, so it was important that we got the first goal."
On his impressions of his team's performance ... "I thought we got better as the weekend went on, not only because we scored some goals, but we just played better. We got out of our own zone more cleanly and started to play the right way. Last night, we were doing a lot of things wrong compared to the way we want to play and the way we can play, and today we took a step forward. We were better on faceoffs; we didn't give up as many shots or chances against. I thought they were the better team for the first three or four minutes of the game, and after that we started to play like us."
On the goaltending from Zach Nagelvoort this weekend ... "Goaltending has to be a factor. Zach Nagelvoort didn't allow any bad goals or any good goals; there were no goals at all (tonight), and there's nothing like that to give your goaltender some confidence. He's had to go through some ups and downs this year, so it's good to see him going in the right direction."
On seeing Luke Dwyer make an appearance in net tonight ... "It was good. Good for our team, and the good thing about our team is that they're more excited for Luke to go in than Luke was. Luke works hard every day; he's one of those guys who does everything right and cares about the team like it's his own family, and it's good to see them care about him."
U-M Junior Forward Cristoval 'Boo' Nieves
On his power-play goal ... "It was a broken play in the neutral zone on the power play. Kind of got lucky, the guys were wheeling around, and their guys were standing flat footed, which made my job pretty easy. I just kind of went around the guy, the goalie came out, and I just got it over his shoulder."
On having his second multi-goal game ... "I remember the first game; it was senior night, and all of us had stepped up that night. Phil (Di Giuseppe) assisted both those goals; he stepped up that game. It was pretty similar to tonight. We got up early, and then we got some broken plays that turned into goals. We capitalized on our opportunities."
U-M Sophomore Forward JT Compher
On the team's recent play ... "I think that we made it one of our goals to turn around the homestand, what we called, 'protect Yost.' So just coming in, working all week for these games, making sure we're sound defensively."
On Luke Dwyer getting some minutes ... "It's unbelievable. Happened last year as well, he (Luke Dwyer) works his butt off every day. He's one of the hardest-working guys and best team guys I've ever been around. For him to be in the game and be out there, you guys all saw our effort; it's like we were up one goal at the end of the Stanley Cup. It's worth it for a great kid."
U-M Sophomore Forward Tyler Motte
On the team's confidence ... "I think this game did a lot. We found a way to win last night, turned that momentum into a good victory again tonight. It's kind of a building block that we can use for the rest of the season, as well as the near future."
On getting above .500 ... "Again, I think it's just a building block, building for the rest of the season. Coming into this homestand, we wanted to protect Yost and work our way back up the ladder, with the end goal of making the tournament. It's just another process, getting above .500 is obviously important, but still a long way to go."
