Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On Michigan's overall performance ... "The difference in tonight's game for me was we didn't have that let down at three minutes, that cost us the game last night, we couldn't recover from it. The pucks also went in for us tonight. Even thought we didn't score in the first period, our team played patient, played hard, and then sooner or later you have to put in the net. Boo Nieves' goal I thought was the highlight; it was a highlight-reel goal. You don't get many of those, but tonight we needed a goal, and he got one. Zach Hyman crashed the crease on his and so on. We got some good hockey plays, we got some good hard-work goals, but it was very good to see the puck go in. On the other end, (Zach) Naglevoort had to play well. At times, this was not an 8-1 game, it could have been a lot closer, and he kept their goals down."
On JT Compher and his line playing well ... "It was just a matter of time when JT was going to score; we just hoped he wouldn't get too frustrated in the meantime, while he's going through that. He's always been a goal scorer, and it wasn't like he was hurting his game; his game was good. Both his wingers (Boo Nieves and Max Shuart) have come alive and started to score. Shuart has played well, Boo has played well, and it's good to see JT get a goal. But that line has been good ever since we put them together."
On whether it was his team's best performance ... "I thought last night could have been except for a few minutes at the beginning. I think tonight was arguably our best game from start to finish. We needed that, not that you need eight goals every night to win, we didn't, but the point is our team still hasn't reached it's potential, and we still haven't played our best game yet."
On his third-line defensemen Cutler Martin and Sam Piazza ... "Cutler battles, he's a physical defenseman. He's just getting more and more confidence every game. We put Sam in, and it was good for him. It's only his fourth game as a Michigan Wolverine, as a freshman, and I thought he moved the puck well, and he did well defensively. It was tough for him when you don't play in the Friday night game, and you're thrown in there on Saturday, and you have to get up to speed, but I thought he was fine."
U-M Junior Forward Andrew Copp
On what the biggest difference was in tonight's game ... "I think we buried our chances and played a full 60 minutes. I think yesterday we had about a five-minute gap where we let up all three goals, and that kind of turned the tables on us. But tonight, we didn't have that letdown. Obviously, scoring eight goals we buried our chances. I think those were the two biggest differences."
On how satisfying the win was against Penn State ... "It was a lot of fun. I wish we could have done that two nights in a row, but we can't get last night's game back, so we were happy with what happened tonight."
U-M Sophomore Forward JT Compher
On how it feels to get his first goal of the season ... "It feels really good. It was a really, really good pass by Max (Shuart) down low. Zach Werenski made a nice play to get it to Max, and I was just happy to get one in. I feel like the weight is off my shoulders a little bit, and I can go back to not answering questions about it and playing hockey."
