Wolverines at No. 11 Nebraska Saturday
Each week, we will give fans an inside look at the Michigan volleyball program with the At the Net blogs. This week, sophomores Abby Cole and Gabbie Bulic prepare for Thanksgiving with a Michigan volleyball version of what they are thankful for.
Hey all,
Gabs and Abs here, with this week's volleyball blog! After an exciting rivalry win over OSU, we came back to the gym ready to work hard on Monday and Tuesday to prepare for our match on Wednesday against Penn State. Unfortunately we fell short of the win, but played a hard-fought match.
Thursday, we got right back in the gym to start preparing for Nebraska, who we play on the road Saturday. Nebraska is always a great atmosphere to play in because they bring in about 8,000 Cornhusker fans. But tucked in the top corner of the arena is our little Maize and Blue section cheering as loud as they can for us.
Next week is also a busy week for use because of the banquet on Tuesday, Indiana on Wednesday, Thanksgiving on Thursday, practice and travel on Friday and finally a game on Saturday against Illinois. Thanksgiving is our team's favorite holiday for obvious reason (B1G Ten, B1G Girls, B1G Appetite). Because we don't really have time to go home and not everyone has family close enough, the Rosen's open their house for those who don't have plans.
Before we get into what we are thankful for we would like to let you all in on our "special" friendship. First, the sheer irony of our friendship, both middles for our team, both giant, we live together and our names are Abby and Gabbie ... seriously it's weird. You might see us driving on Gabs' moped that looks much too small when a 6'3" and 6'5" girl are on it (usually blasting music on our beats pill speaker as if the scene already wasn't strange enough).

Every day during cool-down stretch after practice we shift our focus to planning our dinner, once we get home the music gets a playin' the food gets a cookin' and we get a dancin'. Another place you may find us is at Meijer, which is our favorite store by a landslide; we are the reason they stay in business and why our house is so nicely decorated. Since were together 24/7 we have found some obsessions that we share; candles, strawberry milk, salt and vinegar chips, anything cheese, cleanliness/organization, hammocking, Taylor Swift, and serenading the people of Ann Arbor out the car window. The abnormal comfort we share around each other is only to grow over the next few years together.
Getting into the spirit of the Holiday Season, we have been doing some really hard thinking about what the two of us are thankful for ...
CK's unique sense of style (wearing a Hawaiian hat in November and bandanas during games) and good music in the team room!
Krystalyn's great singing voice that echoes through the showers after practice
Dannemiller for unintentionally mismatching her socks and always making us laugh.
Cindy, for those great, great calves
Davis for her unique humor that never gets old (and blog post that was much funnier than this one)
Adeja, for just being cute all the time
Tiff for dropping it low after we win a point because it's lower than us giants ever could
Kelly for her contagious smile that will brighten anyone's day
Olive for eating that nasty, nasty beef soup in the team room that no one else likes (you do you, girl)
Claire for her insane vertical that everyone is jealous of
Lerg for her incredible sarcasm that we all love so much (pun intended) (Just kidding we really do love you <>
Kat for her natural skin tone that makes us feel a little tanner, even through the winter, and the cheer she does during her introduction
Carly for mesmerizing us with her great dance moves in the team room, and on the court during warmups
Mark for his hilarious jokes during huddles and pregame talk
Leisa for the face she makes after Mark's jokes, and for being everyone's second Mom
Virtue for being always happy ... literally always
Ben and Casey (our managers) for working hard every day to make our practice go faster
Ben Belanger for stress free travel and making sure we have food on our plates
Skylar for living in our team room (seriously he lives there ...)
And last, but not least, Tim for putting up with all the weird questions and injuries we have throughout the year, for example: toenails falling off, getting hit by a car while biking, tripping over fire hydrants, etc.
We wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels for next Thursday!
Love,
Gabs and Abs
