INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The eighth-ranked University of Michigan women's cross country team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, as announced by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee today (Saturday, Nov. 15).
Thirty-one teams were selected to participate in each championship, both of which will run next Saturday (Nov. 22). The top two seven-person teams in each NCAA Regional automatically qualified, for a total of 18 teams, and 13 additional teams -- the Maize and Blue among them -- were selected at-large. Thirty-eight individuals were also selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. The women's race is slated for a noon (EST) start time.
The Wolverines will make their 22nd NCAA Championships appearance under 23rd-year head coach Mike McGuire and their 13th consecutive appearance.
U-M took fourth at Friday's (Nov. 14) NCAA Great Lakes Regional, led by all-region performances from two of their co-captains, senior Brook Handler and fifth-year senior Megan Weschler. Sophomore/freshman Gina Sereno, senior/junior Laura Addison and classmate Anna Pasternak rounded out Michigan's scoring five.
Indiana State University will host the championships at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. A live webcast of the championships will be broadcast from noon (EST) until the conclusion of the awards ceremony on NCAA.com.
