U-M to Return Home to Begin Second Half of Big Ten Schedule
Each week, we will give fans an inside look at the Michigan volleyball program with the At the Net blogs. This week, junior Krystalyn Goode talks about a quick trip to watch a local high school and a phobia from one of her teammates.
Following a tough road weekend against Penn State and that school in Ohio, we headed back into our gym with an extreme focus on each of us quickly making improvement. Four intense practices helped prepare us for the two opponents we face this weekend: Northwestern and Illinois. I have no doubt that both will be great matches and Cliff Keen will be rockin'!
After practice on Thursday, more than half of the girls on our team went to the Greenhills School to cheer on the school's varsity volleyball team. The players, coaches, fans and parents deeply appreciated us being there. We were quite the spirit squad, I must say. I found it pretty awesome that the match was dedicated to raising funds and awareness for Alzheimer's. One of my grandmother's is fighting this terrible disease so I was thrilled to be able to support this cause with my teammates!
Now is when I'll take the time to share something completely non-volleyball related: the seemingly fearless Caroline "CK" Knop has a phobia of masks -- yes, masks. Just yesterday in the locker room she said, "I would swim with sharks ... but masks terrify me." Keeping that in mind, Halloween is an especially challenging day for her. We've spent a lot of time this season discussing having a growth mindset, so I am confident that CK will be able to deal with her fear (but just in case she can't and sees a mask in the crowd tonight, I thought you should know why she was sprinting back to South Quad or possibly California). Hopefully the Zone goes easy on the masks and CK still remembers to bring her game face!
Thanks for reading this week's blog and GO BLUE!
