Michigan picked up its first win of the season to improve to 1-2 on the season. The Wolverines have not been swept in four two-game series against New Hampshire and have not been swept in a non-conference series at home since the 1970-71 season, when the Wolverines lost to Notre Dame on Feb. 19-20, 1971.

Michigan and New Hampshire have met 13 times with the first meeting taking place on Nov. 4, 1983, at Yost Ice Arena (3-2, Michigan W-OT). UNH hosted a two-game weekend series last season at the Whittemore Center on Oct. 18-19, 2013. Michigan leads the all-time series, 7-3-3.

For the third straight game to start the season, the Wolverines outshot their opponents in the first period (9-7). This was the first time that Michigan held its opposition off the scoreboard in the opening period of play. The Wolverines held a 34-32 shot advantage for the game, including a 17-9 margin in the second period.

The Wolverines finished the night a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill, their first perfect performance on the PK this season. Michigan went 0-for-5 on the man-advantage and has yet to score on the power play this season.

Junior goaltender Steve Racine made 30 saves in net in his first start of the season to earn the win. Racine improved his career record to 20-10-4 and has allowed one goal or less in seven career starts.

Sophomore defenseman Michael Downing and freshman defenseman Cutler Martin each scored for the Wolverines, marking the first time that two different Michigan defensemen have scored in a game since Dec. 2, 2013, when Downing and Mac Bennett scored in a 5-4 win at Ohio State.

With an assist on Cutler Martin's second-period goal, Alex Kile now has points in each of Michigan's first three games (G, 2A). Martin and fellow freshman Alex Talcott made their first regular-season appearances for the Wolverines

Michigan head coach Red Berenson needs just 11 wins to become the fourth head coach in Division I men's hockey with 800 victories. Berenson recorded his 789th victory behind the bench tonight.
