U-M to Head to Rutgers, Maryland to Begin Four-Match Road Trip
Each week, we will give fans an inside look at the Michigan volleyball program with the At the Net blogs. This week, freshman Adeja Lambert talks about fall break, the student-athlete homecoming and the return of spin class.
After sweeping both Iowa and Nebraska this past weekend, the team is ready to head to the East Coast, where we play Maryland and Rutgers. This week was especially special because of fall study break both Monday and Tuesday, which means no classes. I think we can all say that this break was much needed!!
On Monday, we had small group practices and a lift. We then had a meeting with Greg Dale to see how our team has been progressing both mentally and physically. Towards the end of the meeting, Greg had us do an activity where everyone took a piece of paper and taped it on the back of their shirts. Everyone, including coaches and our athletic trainer, had to take a marker and describe what we respected about each other in a word or phrase. We were not allowed to see what anyone wrote until we all finished what we had to say about one another. It was nice to see all the positive comments and know that everyone has something unique about themselves that we all admire.
Knowing that we had the rest of the day to relax and had no practice Tuesday, it was time to finally feel like a girl again and get ready for the athlete homecoming dance. A good majority of the team went, and everyone had a blast. I especially have to give a shout out to Abby Cole, Claire Kieffer-Wright, Gabbie Bulic, and Krystalyn Goode for bringing out the four-inch heels that night. Let us all remember the fact that they are all 6-foot-2 and up. It was nice to get away from volleyball for once and go have a good time with other athletes. On our day off, Leisa, Krystalyn Goode, and Lexi Dannemiller took time out of their schedule to talk to kids at Bishop Elementary about blocking out bullying. On Wednesday, it was finally time to return to our normal routine and go to our respective classes. Like usual, we had our afternoon practice and lift but instead of going through our regular lift schedule, we did a few upper body lifts and got the chance to revisit our spin class that we all missed so much.
Thursdays are travel days for us and we had our usual two-hour practice and went to scout right after that. The next stop is the east coast to take on Rutgers and Maryland. Now that we have two straight wins from last weekend under our belt, we are ready to get back at it and look forward to playing against two good programs this weekend. As always, Go Blue!!
