Postgame Notes: Michigan 18, Penn State 13

• Tonight's announced attendance of 113,085 marks the 256th consecutive game of more than 100,000 fans at Michigan Stadium.
• Tonight's game is the first Big Ten night game in Michigan Stadium's 88-year history.
• Michigan improved to 3-0 in home night games. U-M earned victories against Notre Dame in 2011 (35-31) and 2013 (41-30).
• Michigan improved to 11-7 in the all-time series against Penn State. U-M is 6-3 against the Nittany Lions at home.
• Michigan's game captains were senior/junior running back Justice Hayes, senior/junior fullback Joe Kerridge, fifth-year senior linebacker Jake Ryan and junior safety Jarrod Wilson.
• Junior/sophomore defensive lineman Chris Wormley, freshman defensive tackle Bryan Mone and sophomore defensive back Dymonte Thomas all made their first career starts.
• Michigan improved to 16-for-16 in the red zone and has scored touchdowns on 13-of-16 trips inside the 20-yard line (.813)
• Penn State's 214 yards of total offense are fewest allowed by Michigan in Big Ten play this season and second fewest overall behind Miami University (198).
• Michigan has held its opponents to fewer than 100 rushing yards in five of seven games this season.
• Fifth-year senior Devin Gardner completed 16-of-24 passes for 192 yards and one touchdown and carried the ball 10 times for 18 yards. He was 5-of-6 on passing attempts in the first quarter and is 33-of-42 (78.6) percent) in first quarters this year. It marks his sixth passing touchdown of the season.
• Gardner upped his career passing yards to 5,543 to move to sixth among U-M's all-time leaders in the category, passing both Tom Brady (5,351, 1996-99) and Jim Harbaugh (5,449, 1983-86). He needs 315 more yards to reach the fifth spot, currently held by Todd Collins (5,858, 1991-94).
• Gardner moved to the seventh spot among U-M's career leaders in both pass attempts (648) and completions (392), tying Steve Smith (1980-83) and passing Harbaugh (387, 1983-86), respectively.
• Gardner recorded his 20th career 150-yard passing game, moving to sixth among U-M's all-time leaders in the category, passing Jim Harbaugh (19, 1983-86).
• Gardner passed Elvis Grbac (6,221, 1989-92) for sixth on Michigan's all-time list for total yards of offense with 6,350 yards and needs 110 more yards to reach the fifth spot on the list, currently held by Rick Leach (6,460, 1975-78). He also passed Anthony Thomas (924, 1997-2000) for sixth on Michigan's all-time list for total offensive plays with 966 and 24 more plays to reach the fifth spot, currently held by Steve Smith (990, 1980-83).
• Senior kicker Matt Wile recorded a career-best three field goals -- of 45, 42 and 37 yards. It is just his third career game with multiple field goals. His 45-yarder in the second quarter is a season long. His career long is 52 yards, which he recorded against South Carolina 2013 Outback Bowl.
• Junior wide receiver Devin Funchess has caught at least one pass in 20 straight games and now ranks 10th among U-M's all-time leaders in consecutive games with a reception, sharing the spot with Anthony Carter. He needs a catch in four more games to reach the ninth spot, currently held by Desmond Howard (24).
• Funchess' 43-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter is a season long. His career-long catch is 59 yards, which he recorded last season at Penn State.
• With 52 kickoff return yards, junior wide receiver Dennis Norfleet upped his career kick-return yardage to 2,029 to establish a new Michigan school record in the category. Norfleet also holds the program record with 86 career kickoff returns.
• Norfleet moved to seventh place among the Big Ten's all-time leaders in kickoff return yards, passing Indiana's Marcus Thigpen (2,009, 2005-08). He needs 59 more to reach the sixth spot, currently held by Indiana's Derin Graham (2,088, 1998-2000).
• Norfleet registered a career-long 24-yard reception in the fourth quarter. His previous long was 20, which he recorded last week at Rutgers.
• The Wolverines' six sacks are the program's most since Aug. 30, 2008, against Utah.
• Senior defensive end Brennen Beyer recorded two sacks, both for losses of three yards in the second quarter, setting two new career highs for sacks in a game and sacks in a season. His previous game high was one (recorded four times previously), while his previous season high was two (2013).
• Senior defensive end Frank Clark recorded his 10th career sack, upping his season total to 3.5, late in the fourth quarter. He has recorded a tackle-for-loss in six of seven games this season.
• Sophomore linebacker Ben Gedeon recorded his second career sack in the first quarter -- for a loss of seven yards.
• Junior defensive end Mario Ojemudia has notched in sack in two consecutive games.
• Senior linebacker Jake Ryan recorded a four-yard tackle-for-loss in the first quarter and a three-yard TFL in the third quarter, giving him 39.5 in his career. He now ranks 10th in U-M history, just 0.5 TFL behind James Hall (40, 1996-99). Ryan has now recorded a tackle-for-loss in 30 of his last 38 games.
• Sophomore/freshman linebacker Mike McCray recorded the first TFL of his career for two yards on Penn State's attempted fake punt in the third quarter.
• Sophomore defensive back Jourdan Lewis recorded his second interception of the season, returning it four yards -- the first return yards of his career.
• Michigan's fourth-quarter safety was the program's first since Nov. 26, 2011, against Ohio State.
