ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Freshman goalkeeper Taylor Bucklin (Greenwich, Conn./Brookfield) made a career-high seven saves as the No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's soccer team battled No. 18 Wisconsin to a scoreless draw on Friday (Sept. 27) at U-M Soccer Stadium.

The Wolverines' best chance came in the 17th minute, when freshman Madisson Lewis (Canton, Mich./Plymouth) found some space in the midfield and fired a shot on net from just inside the 18-yard box that was saved by Badgers goalkeeper Genevieve Richard. The U-M defense was also stout, not allowing Wisconsin's first shot until the 40th minute. Meanwhile, the Wolverines went into the locker room with an edge in shots (5-1) and corner kicks (3-1).
In the 61st minute, senior Nkem Ezurike (Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia/Sackville) bent a shot inside the 18-yard box that Richard had to dive to her left to save. The rebound fell to sophomore Corinne Harris (Chicago, Ill./Walter Payton College Prep), but her shot was blocked and trickled into the midfield. Ezurike got another opportunity in the 73rd minute, going one-on-one with Richard, but her attempted chip shot was saved.
In the 88th minute, Wisconsin's Rose Lavelle nearly broke the tie with a left-footed rocket of a shot, but it was just wide of the net.
The Badgers shot Michigan, 7-0, in extra time. In the 100th minute off a corner kick, Wisconsin's Alexandra Heller chipped a shot over head that was cleared by a Michigan defender on the back line at the near post, erasing a potential game-winning goal. The Badgers had two more chances on net in the second overtime, but both were from distance and easily saved by Bucklin.
The Wolverines are back on the pitch on Sunday (Sept. 29), welcoming Minnesota to U-M Soccer Stadium. The match will start at 1 p.m. and be televised live by the Big Ten Network.
